x + y = 61
x = y + 9

Substitute y + 9 in for x in the first equation and then solve.
y + 9 + y = 61
Combine like terms
2y + 9 = 61
Subtract 9 from both sides
2y = 52
Divide both sides by 2
y = 26
y + 9 = 35
26 and 35
