The first step in a scientific method is to make an observation (unless you already have a certain phenomenon in mind)

When you make an observation you're making it based on specific events that have already happened and can be verified by others as true or false. Examples: Back bike brakes making a loud noise. Toaster won't toast my bread. Jake's iphone headphones stopped playing music in one earphone.
